3 Wheeled Buggies

A 3 wheel parent facing pushchair-wheeler can be used for off-road walking and for tackling terrain such as bumpy pavements or tracks in woodlands. They are also simpler to maneuver between kerbs and up and down them in comparison to 4-wheel models.

MadeForMums reviews editor Kath tried one of these three-wheelers with her newborn and 3 year old daughter, putting it through its paces on the road and on a rocky surface. Read her review here.

Stability

Four-wheel buggies with their centre of gravity balancing by your child's weight in the seat, are typically more stable than three-wheelers. But that doesn't mean that the three-wheel buggie isn't worth considering, since the majority of these models are designed to withstand everything from rough terrain to busy high streets.

For a buggy that's really easy to maneuver and will not be a problem on bumpy pavements, look for one with large rear wheels and an adjustable front wheel that locks. These all-terrain buggies typically have pneumatic tyres too, which are great at handling uneven surfaces and can even be used on sandy beaches or tracks in woodland.

They're also the best buggies to be jogging with, as they provide great stability over rougher ground and can help you keep up with your jogging partner. They can also be used to go up and down steep kerbs and many of them come with a spring suspension built-in so that your baby can enjoy a comfortable ride.

A stroller with 3 wheels can be a challenge to maneuver due to its large frame. It can be more difficult to get through narrow spaces and doorways than a 4-wheeler. However certain manufacturers have addressed this issue with a clever design that makes the wheels flip up when not being used, which reduces their overall size, and allows you get through doors without difficulty.

If yes, make sure to check for a lie-flat location and also whether the design is compatible with second seating and buggy boards (if you want to add the toddler). Check if the buggy has an option to lie flat and if it is compatible with second seat and buggy boards if you plan to take an infant along. A majority of 3-wheelers can fold flat, and then be placed upright. This is a great option if you only have an unwieldy boot space or a small amount of storage space at home. However, some will require you to remove the front wheel prior to folding in order to fit into more compact 3 wheel stroller spaces.

Manoeuvrability

three wheel pushchairs-wheeled buggies generally offer better manoeuvrability than pushchairs with four wheels. They often have a swivelling front wheel that lets you change direction quickly and steer using only one hand. Some models have locks on the wheel to offer stability on rough terrain. Some models can be used with an additional seat or buggy board if you plan to expand your family.

If you're planning to take your three-wheeled buggy off tracks that are paved, it's worth opting for a vehicle equipped with tyres filled with air (also called pneumatic tyres) that can withstand the most challenging terrain. They may have to be regularly pumped up from time intervals, but they'll be more durable and puncture-proof compared to solid tyres. You should choose one with an adjustable front wheel that can be locked to assist you on difficult surfaces.

When folded, three-wheelers can be heavier than buggies with four wheels because of the single wheel on the front. Check to see if the model you're considering can fit in the boot of your car and is able to be stood up, if necessary. Some models fold with one hand and stand up when collapsed. This will save space in small car boot.

A quality 3 wheel pushchair will be able to deal with most terrain from busy main streets to woodland tracks. It is important to consider the way you'll use it every day. If you'll be doing the school run, it must be able to cope with steep slopes and kerbs. If you'll be jogging with it, check that it has an adjustable lockable swivelling'stretch' for the front wheel to keep the ride stable.

MFM reviewer Kath found her three-wheeled buggy able to cope really well on rural and urban walks. Kath noted that it could navigate rocky paths, cobbles and uneven pavements effortlessly and was comfortable when running. It's also a great option for day trips, since it has plenty of storage space, including a huge ample basket with a zip-top cover and an extendable 50+ UV hood. It can also be modified to accommodate babies from birth using a lie-flat seat or carry cot, as well as being compatible with most popular second seats and buggy boards.

Fabric Sling Seat

The main difference between a fabric sling and a modular seats is that the fabric sling is placed comfortably inside the frame of the buggy instead of being positioned on top as a modular seat would. This allows for a more comfortable and ergonomically-correct position for the baby, which results in a lower center of gravity at the ideal height. This translates into an easier push, a less hefty curb pop (you do not require much effort or weight to push the buggy over the curb's edge) and a better stability and balance.

These seats also come with sling fabrics that are easy to clean and durable. Made specifically for the use of sling chairs in mind they are UV resistant and extremely breathable. They also have an excellent durability and are easy to clean with mild soap and water.

If you're a jogger, or enjoy a bit of off-roading, an all terrain 3 wheeler could be more your bag than a buggy with four wheels. These models tend to have a wider, more stable base and use air-filled tyres to allow for smooth and agile movement on rough ground.

A brand most well-known for its car seats, Maxi-Cosi has recently added a new 3-wheeler to its lineup with the Stella. This all-terrain buggy boasts an enormous, spacious and impressively growing travel system seat unit that can be a world-facing or parent facing and reclines flat thanks to an upgraded 5-point safety harness. It can be used with a car seat or carrycot from birth. It comes with a large shopping basket.

This 3 wheeler of luxury, designed for the most discerning buggy owners is as stunning to see as it is functional. The angular frame has stunning pewter finish and touches of burnished aluminium. It's a show-stopper. A spacious, cushioned seat that can be used as world or parent facing with a more secure 5-point safety harness as well as a full set of rain covers make this a great option for parents who are active.

Modular Seat

Modular seating can be configured in a variety of ways to accommodate different seating requirements. Modular seating can be easily adjusted to create a relaxing setting for watching movies, or an open layout to entertain guests. Many modular seating systems also come with cushion covers that can be removed, making it easier to clean up spills and staining.

Modular Seating can be designed to blend with existing decor or stand out as an accent piece. A wide range of color, fabric and shape options ensures that you can find an alternative seating option that suits your style. Many functional features are available in modular seating, such as hidden storage compartments that allow easy organization and decluttering of living spaces.

3-wheel buggies provide more stability than strollers with four wheels, which makes them ideal for off-road or all terrain adventures. The large front wheel, which is highly maneuverable, allows for smooth and agile movement. The tyres, which are usually air-filled and have suspension, give you a great ride on the most difficult trails and roads. The wheels aren't as close to the ground on these pushchairs, as they are with four wheeled pushchairs. This makes them great for walking uphill.

Often 3-wheel prams are a favorite for parents who love running and jogging with their children because they offer superior agility and are less bulky than their 4-wheel counterparts. The GB Upp XL, for instance, features a sleek, burnished aluminum frame with a fast one-handed fold as well as forward-facing and rear-facing seats. The Babyzen Yoyo, on the other hand, comes with black frames with a carrycot that is placed in a fully lie-flat position, and has tyres that are air-filled.

Another excellent all-terrain option is the incredibly light, extremely maneuverable and stylish Mountain Buggy Sport verso. This buggy can last from birth, and comes with a carrycot and toddlerhood with the adjustable seat. All this is within the footprint of one buggy.

The most recent model, duet(tm), is a side-byside buggy that's small enough for urban living yet with a lot of innovation and control. It features an exclusive seat made of fabric that is positioned snugly within the frame at the perfect height for weight distribution. This allows for easy kerb jumping and navigating cities and neighborhoods.
