iRobot Combo Review

Combo is iRobot's very first mop-and vacuum robot, and it's the most attractive model of the company. The top of the machine is brushed aluminum, and the irobot series Logo are more classy than the loud designs from competitors.

You use the iRobot Home app to set up and guide your robot. The app gathers usage data and maps of your home that include furniture and obstacles. Maps and image information are only shared if you have opted-in.

It's not a mop.

The Combo Irobot, an extremely intelligent mopping robot, combines all the intelligence of the excellent Roomba J7+ and adds a water reservoir onboard and mopping pads, and a robot arm which can lift and lower the pad. It can do quite a bit of work in the 111 minutes it takes before running out of juice and returning to its base station for recharge.

The combo model also features the iRobot home app, meaning you can initiate and stop cleaning runs. It's also a good-looking robot, sporting matte black plastic that doesn't show fingerprints or dust and the top piece of aluminum is brushed with an encircling iRobot logo.

It's a fantastic vacuum cleaner, and it does not have any trouble crossing large areas of carpet or transition strips between flooring surfaces. It's even able to capture fine dust that other robotic vacuums don't. However, it's not well in mow. It's not able to completely eliminate dried milk stains, for example, unless you send it out four or five times.

iRobot’s dedicated Braava jet M6 mopping robot cleaner, which is often offered in a bundle with the j7 plus for less than the cost of the combo Combo does a much better job in this and other tasks that are difficult. It can even clean up spilled wine and ketchup, though I'd advise against using it in the presence of liquid with a high sugar content.

It's an air vacuum

It's among the more attractive robot vacuums. The top part is smooth and doesn't show dust or fingerprints as easily as other models. The tiny water tank and dustbin of this robot vacuum are simple to open, but they are not the most spacious. The Combo j7+ has all the features you'd expect from irobot self emptying vacuum. It has maps and obstacle avoidance maps that function efficiently and quickly. But it's the mopping arm that makes this a standout model in its class. It keeps the mop pad hidden behind the vacuum, however, when it recognizes the need to mop a surface it lowers the pad beneath and behind the robot. This is a major upgrade over other robot vacuums, which require you to remove mop pads from hard floors or carpets manually. You can also switch off the entire unit to mop.

It's an electric charging station.

When you're ready to charge your Combo irobot models, just place it on the charging station and align its metal contacts with those on the base. The charging station works well and is simple to set up. In my tests it took a few moments to charge and then make an audible sound when it was finished. Once the Combo Irobot is fully recharged, you can begin a mapping run in the app to help it understand your home. You can also mark certain items like lamp cords as permanent avoidances in the app. You can also connect Alexa or Google Assistant to your robot so that you can use voice commands for it to navigate around your home.

It's a smart device

Combo irobots vacuum cleaner make use of acoustic as well as onboard sensors to discover the type of floor they're navigating and the objects in your home. This information is then combined with images from the robot's onboard camera as well as maps of your home to create an individual plan to clean each room. It's intelligent enough to avoid your couch, lamp cords as well as other objects you want to preserve. Of course, like any connected device there are concerns regarding the security of this data. iRobot however, claims that it will not sell any customer data and no images are captured without the consent of the customers.
