The intake hoses are then removed from the fuel and causes them to absorb air which extinguishes flames and depressurizes bottle.

This is an ingenious solution to an old problem, and it works. The Nova can be used with any fuel bottle that has an o-ring seal, which includes MSR bottles. It also comes with a full-featured stove bag that includes separate pockets for spare parts, tools, lubricant and the fuel pump.

This is a fantastic stove for backpacking that can be used in the UK. It is especially ideal for trips, where many fuel types are required. It is a lightweight and compact stove that can burn all liquid fuels including white gas, propane butane and white gas with only one nozzle. It's a typical stove design with a burner bell bolted to the body, which is then anchored by three fold out support legs. The pump is on top of the fuel hose and the generator loop runs around the inlet, and the flame spreader is up above the inlet. The burner is a low-velocity flame type. This makes it less susceptible to wind.

It is a nice feature that it can be used with a canister of isobutane or propane, making it a versatile little cooker. It is easy to simmer with isobutane as well as propane and it burns all types of fuels at a good rate. However, when using white gas the stove is a little slower.

One thing to be aware of concerning the Hydra is that the instructions are written in English that was clearly not written by a native speaker of the language. However it's not as inexpensive as the whistler Lite. The Soto Amicus cookset and stove is an excellent alternative, providing similar features for less than half the cost. Whisperlite International and Universal can be utilized with isobutane. The same fundamental design is used in both, but the Universal version can be run with canister fuel as well.

Coleman Sportster II

Like many Coleman stoves, this one is a simple, rough and ready unit that gets the job done. It's sturdy and compact, and it's self-contained with the tank on the bottom and the burner on top. This makes it easy to use and an excellent option for those who are new to backpacking, who want to reduce weight, and for those of us who want to keep an extra or two in the van.

If you do it wrong, fuel can get into the tank, splash outside the burner, or sputter. Do some practice outside before going on your next trip to master it.

The stove will sacrifice some performance or flame odor efficiency when using non-coleman fuels but it's a trade-off for the additional flexibility it offers. Be sure to buy gasoline that isn't leaded and not that is enriched with methanol or ethanol (alcohol). That's because these types of fuel can cause the unit to disintegrate, leak, sputter and even explode!
