Find the battery hatch, and ensure that it is set to "open." Use a flathead screwdriver, coin or a similar tool to open the hatch to open. Then, carefully pull out the battery by lifting the side closest to the hook for the key-ring. Wear rubber gloves to protect the electronic contact surfaces.

Insert the new battery into the socket after the previous one has been removed. Make sure that the positive side is facing up and that it's seated within all clips. Slide the cover downwards towards the key-ring portion until it is loose and slides off. Then, take off the cover to reveal the key blade hidden inside. It can be used to unlock your car from the driver's doors when you've lost or broken the key fob.

Note: Some older Volvos are powered by a different kind of battery one called the CR2025. CR2025 batteries have a thickness of 7 tenths one millimeter lower than a CR2032, so you'll need to be extra cautious when replacing your battery.
